Day Three

July 15th, 2009 Day Three

0830: Going home to get ready to go home day. Arrived at hospital to find dad sitting up in his chair and feeling poorly.

0930: First attempt to have dad’s plurex catheter checked and fluids drained. (Last week he had 5.5 liters of fluid drained from his chest and abdomen).

11:30 Nurse informs us that Central Supply sent wrong drainage device. (Tough to swallow that news but people are people).

11:45 Case manager Mary said the new drainage device was on its way. Discharge would be about 1:30.

13:30 Nursing staff, 1 doctor, 2 chaplains a hospital operator and two answering machines were treated to an exact imitation of Sergeant Clouse (Back in the day) I was pleasant, Christ like and professional but boy did they get a great view of the veins in my neck and forehead.

14:00 Finally a nurse with common sense goes to the Radiology lab and grabs a drainage device.

15:00 After a trip to Sonic for ice cream we are HOME! Hospice nurse is waiting to admit dad. Truck arrives with medical equipment. We all sit around eating spaghetti and taking turns playing with the electric bed. (Comfy mattress too).

2000 Full day of visiting, laughing and reminiscing in between 2 minute power-naps. Oh and dad creates a Facebook page. (Now, will he check it daily?)

2200 We head out for one last night’s rest before heading East.
